100-Word Drabble, Day 1

Written in the style of Hatrack River by Orson Scott Card:

Old Ishbaal watched the scout come running down the slope with his report. He was a young lad named of Benaiah. This was his first raiding party with the Gibborim, and Ishbaal sensed the boy was still green. He waited as Benaiah caught his breath, before crossing his arms, a subtle gesture to indicate his impatience.

The boy caught on quick. Good lad. “Kingsmen,” he wheezed. “Over the next ridge. Pretty certain they spotted me.”

Around him, the Gibborim roused. Shields rattled. Spear were snatched up by their hafts. There would be battle soon and they were glad for it.
